What’s included, how to choose a lesson, and what happens when you inquire. A little clarity before your first Kabalana wave.
I’ve never surfed before. Can I join?
Absolutely. Our beginner lessons start with beach practice before you head into the water with your instructor. We choose a suitable area for your experience and the conditions, and work at your pace.
How long is a lesson, and what’s included?
Every surf lesson is 90 minutes, including beach practice and in-water coaching. Your surfboard, rash guard, and zinc are included. Bring your swimwear, a towel, drinking water, and your usual sun protection.
Can we learn together as a family or a couple?
Yes. Couple lessons and group lessons are available. Our group lesson needs at least five people and costs LKR 5,000 per person. Tell us everyone’s ages and experience so we can recommend a suitable arrangement. Beginner couple lessons are LKR 6,000 per person (LKR 12,000 for two). Intermediate couple lessons are LKR 7,000 per person (LKR 14,000 for two).
What if the waves aren’t suitable at Kabalana?
We plan around the conditions and your ability. For intermediate lessons, if Kabalana is not suitable, we can take you to another spot. Tuk tuk transport is included in the intermediate package, with no extra transport charge. We’ll confirm the plan with you.
Can I rent a board without booking a lesson?
Yes. We offer soft tops, funboards, and shortboards, with hourly and daily rentals and discounts for longer rentals. All boards are checked daily for safety. Ask us about current availability and rates.
Do you have sun beds or somewhere to stay?
Yes to both. Sun beds are available at the beach. Ashen Surf House has two rooms with double-bed accommodation, a kitchen, bathroom, air conditioning, and hot water. The listed nightly rate is LKR 15,000; ask us about room availability and your total before booking.
How do I book, and what happens after I inquire?
Fill out the inquiry form to prepare a WhatsApp message, or contact us directly. We’ll discuss your experience, preferred date, group size, conditions, and price. Sending an inquiry does not confirm a booking or take a payment.
What are your private and couple lesson prices?
Beginner private lessons are LKR 7,000 for one person. Intermediate private lessons are LKR 9,000 for one person. Beginner couple lessons cost LKR 6,000 per person (LKR 12,000 for two), and intermediate couple lessons cost LKR 7,000 per person (LKR 14,000 for two). One person joining a group pays LKR 6,000 for beginner coaching or LKR 7,000 for intermediate coaching.
Can you film our session?
Private, couple, and group video packages are available, with drone surf video and full HD photos. We confirm filming arrangements, weather suitability, package pricing, and delivery details before booking.
How do I arrange a stay at Ashen Surf House?
Share your check-in and check-out dates and number of guests. There are two rooms, with a double bed, kitchen, bathroom, air conditioning, and hot water. The listed rate is LKR 15,000 a night. Our family confirms room arrangements, availability, and the total with you.
